The Social Development Agency (SDA) is a not-for-profit organisation, established in May 2004, “to promote Europe’s social dimension in a globalised world”. It is supported by the ETUC and works under its umbrella.
The SDA’s aims are to:
participate in and carry out specific projects on social issues
promote activities relating to social dialogue
promote the international dimension of social dialogue
develop advisory services and assistance for European Works Councils and workforce representatives in SE’s (European Companies)
disseminate results and experiences in the area of social dialogue
undertake public relations activities focusing on social dialogue
organise expert networking systems
The SDA also manages the ETUC’s Infopoint project, supported by the European Commission, which is its most important activity to date. Infopoint offers information and professional assistance on setting up projects financed by the European Commission’s budget line 04030303, as well as other areas. Former Infopoint staff now form part of the SDA team, with expertise covering:
setting up projects financed by other Commission budget lines
project management and promotion
advisory services for European Works Councils and workforce representatives in European Companies (SEs)
support in publicising and disseminating results of social dialogue activities
setting up partnerships and projects in countries outside the EU, to highlight the international dimension of European social dialogue
coordinating translation, interpretation and editing services
organisation of seminars and congresses
providing a wide range of contacts
The SDA is open to institutional members with an interest in Europe’s social dimension, such as international, European and national trade unions, NGOs and research institutes. Individuals who support the SDA’s philosophy can become associate members.
